I am a retired IT Systems Manager who worked for the Grande Prairie Public School District for over 28 years.
I have three boys, Ian and Matthew from a previous marriage and a step son Owen. I got re married in the summer of 2011 on Bowen Island on a friends boat, to my amazing wife and rock Jenn.
I have always been interested in computers going back to when my Dad brought home a Spectrum ZX81 followed by a 128 sometime later. I remember sitting for hours programming a basic game and saving to tape every 10 minutes.
I moved to Canada in 1988 and for about 2 years was a stay at home Dad, around 1990 I started being a sub Teaching Assistant at a school. While working as a TA my interest in computers led me down a path of becoming the school computer tech.
Overtime technology at the school district grew and we become a more centralized IT department with me taking on a more and more senior server/systems administration role, this eventually led me to become the IT Systems Manager.
The position was management of all the systems from servers and Active Directory through to software deployment, basically if you could not touch it physically I looked after it, well when I say me I mean my team. I also run ran Helpdesk system and ensured the end users received the best service as possible.
I enjoyed my job, it is always changing, currently the whole mobile device system is coming more and more we need to be able to manage these devices and ensure that IT enables them to be used in a responsible manner in an education setting.
Number one is the student, the teachers may think they are number one, but we will drop a teacher issue for a student issue, if it effecting the learning of this student.
Well that’s me in a nutshell, there is so much more and if you read my Blog you will learn more about me and what I do at work and at home.
So on September 16 2019 I retired, it was with mixed emotions, I have had some health issues over the past couple of years and with some other reasons, I decided it was time.
